Lesson xxx - [Song Title]

In this lesson, you will learn another Beth Carvalho song - "Vou Festejar."  In this song, the singer speaks directly to a romantic interest who had recently betrayed him/her.  The chorus would roughly translate to "You repaid kindness with treachery."  Despite this treachery, however, the singer declares that s/he will no longer argue or be affected by it, and instead will go "festejar" or "celebrate" the person's suffering and regret.

"Vou Festejar" is a perfect example of the Samba genre's characteristic combination of the festive and melancholy.  Just like "Vou Festejar," many Samba songs feature dark lyrics set to lively and light-hearted instrumentals.  When listening to Samba songs like 'Vou Festejar," a non-Portuguese speaker would most likely assume the the subject matter of the song was just as happy as the music itself or the people dancing and smiling to it.
